Following the major earthquake that shook l’Aquila in April 2009, Albertani Corporates - with its Arch Legno division - took part in the construction of a building project aimed at offering a new home to those who were left homeless by the quake as quickly as possible.
QUANTITY OF MATERIALS SUPPLIED
In total 7 (seven) plates were put up, situated in:
- 2 (two) at the Bazzano site
- 4 (four) at the S. Elia 2 site
- 1 (one) at the Paganica 2 site
12,250 square metres of useful surface area were created (13,300 square metres with staircases and distribution) split into various-sized dwellings for a total of 168 units, designed to accommodate over 600 people.
In total, the following quantities of wood were used:
- large fir wood panels in layers of nailed XILAM planks in a criss-cross pattern for the construction of the external and internal load-bearing walls = total 3,500 cubic metres
fir Glulam beams for the construction of the floors and roof floors = total 2,400 cubic metres
solid larch wood planks for the construction of the gallery and balcony floors and for the construction of the moving brise soleil sun shades = total 95 cubic metres
- glued pine wood profiles for the construction of the external doors and windows = total 120 cubic metres
- oak wood floor laid on the entire surface of each individual dwelling (with the exception of bathrooms) = total 9,100 cubic metres
HEAT TRANSMISSION VALUES
Heat transmission value of vertical walls U = 0.20 W/mq K
Heat transmission value of roof U = 0.20 W/mq K
SIGNIFICANT ASPECTS OF THE PROJECT
A determining prerogative of ArchLegno constructions is the material used: all wood and only wood, a material with a thousand-year history that has been re-assessed for its exceptional properties in terms of elasticity, light weight and sturdiness; these properties make it the ideal material with which to build safe houses.
SBuilding structure made with XILAM panels (registered trademark produced at the Tecsol plant of Albertani Corporates), Glulam floors with dry finish, exterior wall cladding in rock wool with plaster finish, internal cladding in plasterboard, glued pine profile windows and doors, stylish internal doors and reinforced main doors, oak wood floors.
The prefabrication method, the perfectly organised logistics and the speed of assembly enabled the construction of each individual plate in just 78 natural consecutive days.
