A panel of 5 experts selected and awarded the "Bollino di Eco_Luoghi" (Eco-Place Sticker) to 5 senior designers and 5 junior designers who will be given the task of producing a model in a scale of 1:1 capable of observing the environmental and landscape parameters required by the context in which they were devised.
Our partnership with the nuEvo team has enabled us to produce a real prototype, a basic dwelling module with a useful surface area of approximately 45 square metres, which is conceived on the basis of the use of sustainable construction technologies and sophisticated energy and technology systems.
The decision to design these modules as prefabricated structures stems from the issues with which architecture has always had to deal: cost containment, flexibility of use and the mobility of structures: a prefabricated structure is no longer the mere result of a design choice focused on saving time and money, but it is an efficient alternative to more traditional techniques in situations or circumstances that are especially complex.
The nuEvo project was picked among the 10 winning projects of the national EcoLuoghi 2011 competition (houses for sustainable living), promoted by the Mecenate90 Association in Rome in conjunction with the Ministry for the Environment, Land and Sea Protection and it will be implemented for international display at the MAXXI museum in Rome scheduled to take place between 26th June and 31st July 2012.

The Consulting Panel, chaired by Pio Baldi, has concluded its examination of the approximately 50 projects presented by Architects and Engineers for the “Eco_Luoghi 2011” Consultation. According to the provisions of the regulations, 5 designers have been selected in the junior category (under 35) and 5 in the senior category. Overall, the projects have proven especially innovative, both in terms of the technological solutions implemented on the subject of energy savings, as well as in terms of relations with the landscape. By 30th November next, the winning designers will have identified just as many Italian companies willing to produce the prototypes in a scale of 1.1 of the 45 square metre eco-friendly houses. Considering the importance of the Project, Festarch (the most significant Architecture Festival) has invited Mecenate 90, the winning Architects and the companies set to produce the prototypes to present the projects in the Hall of Honour of Palazzo Donini in Perugia on 9th June. The Exhibition of the prototypes will be inaugurated on 28th June 2012 in the halls of the Maxxi Museum which today represents the most significant international contemporary architecture exhibition facility. The designers and companies will be receiving from the Ministry for the Environment, which promoted the project with Mecenate 90, the “Eco_Luoghi 2011” Bollino sticker as confirmation of the acknowledgement of the architectural quality and eco-compatibility of the solutions implemented.
“We are extremely satisfied with the outcome of the Consultation” – stated Ledo Prato, Secretary-General of the Mecenate 90 Association – “The participation of so many young designers bears witness to the need to open up the market of opportunities to the younger generations, who have ideas and skills. We now expect the active participation of the Italian companies involved in the project to be imitated, so as to re-launch such an important sector of the Italian economy. Indeed, the Consultation aims at being a spur for the growth and development of Italian entrepreneurship in this sector where, over recent years, companies from the rest of Europe have got the upper hand. Thanks to its thousand-year history, Italy is still an important international reference in contemporary architecture. Concurrently, mention must be made that for a few years now, demand for quality architecture that respects the landscape and is attentive to energy savings is growing, and in order to satisfy it, an entrepreneurial system that is ready to take on these new challenges is required. We are grateful to the Ministry for the Environment who shared the project and supported it zealously.
